Caliente

Note to self: giving yourself a dixie-cup shower at every water stop may be necessary for cooling purposes, but it will make your shorts look like pleather hot pants.

And, um…at least I beat the dude in the leopard shorts?  (Although I did get passed by a girl in a banana suit.  Killed me.)

In all honesty, this photo makes me feel a little bit better about myself, seeing how many B and C corrallers finished alongside me.

Obligatory post-race beer shot!

I have very little else to say today.  Mostly because I’ve been obsessed with finding a way to somehow redeem myself for all of the hard work I put in training for Chicago.  I’m not sure if it’s another marathon or a race of a different sort, but I’ve come to the conclusion that (after a short break) I’m training through this one.

Although I didn’t perform as well as I wanted to on Sunday, I do believe that higher mileage and more intense training going in to this one are making recovery much more speedy than any marathon I’ve run in the past.  I’m not sore.  I don’t feel nearly as exhausted or burned out after Sunday’s effort as I normally would after 26.2.  I feel ready to run again.

And also, I’m itching to take these guys for a spin:

Brooks Launch, picked up at the race expo!  Lighter and more comfy than my Ghosts.  I feel like I might run through them pretty quickly as there’s not much to them, but for shorter stuff and speed-work, I think they’ll be perfect!  Can’t wait to inaugurate them.

Anyway.  Not sure exactly what lies ahead, but I’m scheming.  More on that later. 🙂

Today’s EAT: I have been a cheese fiend lately.  For my solo dinner last night, I hit up the Whole Foods bar:

Macaroni and cheese topped with salad with…cheese.  And ranch dressing.  1.3 pounds of food.  I licked the box clean.

Today’s DRINK: One thing that I am really loving about NC is the craft beer culture down here!  WF’s beer case overflows with selections from beermakers I’ve never heard of.  And yes, I plan on trying them all. 🙂

Last night I picked up a pack of Schwarzbier from The Duck Rabbit:

Black Lager – that’s new one to me!  It was wonderfully complex, a little sweet, and not at all bitter.  Loved it.  Glad I have five more in the fridge.

Today’s RUN: Well, not yet.  Tomorrow.  The red grape blister seems to be healing well, and things are generally feeling pretty good at this point.  I’m gonna see how some easy miles go over and go from there!

Today’s QUESTION: What’s your shoe of choice at the moment?

  1. Ooh I can’t wait to hear about your new Brooks shoes. I have Brooks Ravenna and I LOVE them.

  2. My boyfriend fell in love with Duck Rabbit beers when we were in the outer banks over the summer. He made me stuff one of the pint glasses with the logo on it in my purse to steal. I pretty much stick with Asics 2150s

  3. No Shrek photos for you! :0)

As for shoes, I am in search of a new pair. Brooks Adrenalines are just not cutting it for me any more. I want a lighter shoe with less bulk. I’ve been eyeing all these pretty Nikes out there. I may just order a pair off Running Warehouse (Nike LunarElite +) that are 50% off to give them a try. I have mild pronation so I think I can move away from shoes that are made for major support.

I am ready for a shoe built for speed. lol!

  4. by the way, how did you get a copy of your proof? I tried the illegal right click but it didn’t work.

  5. I think I’ve officially become a shoe convert from Nike to New Balance. Love my NB 758s, but now they’ve morphed into 759s. We shall see. If I don’t have problems, I will be loyal forever. I’m proud that you beat the man in the leopard shorts, and I love that last marathon photo!

  6. Dude, now I have that “I’m a banana” song in my head. If you don’t know it, Google it (or don’t, it’s pretty awful).

  7. New Balance 759s, in giant width for my massive feet. They’re okay. I don’t love them–they don’t hold up very long, and the arch support is pretty lame. But my local running store only offers NBs in wide, and they’re the best of what they have to offer, so…NBs it is.

At mile 26 I passed the guy in the giant Eiffel Tower costume solely so he would not steal the show in my finish line photos. Vanity is powerful stuff.

  8. At least you finished around people who look like they should be running. A bunch of my race pictures look like I was running with a nursing home. Ugh.

  9. I’m currently obsessed with my Ghosts, but now you’ve got me thinking about the Launch 🙂

Jacqui would approve of that Whole Foods mac ‘n cheese. Miss you!!!

    • I was totally Jacqui-inspired as I lined my box with mac and cheese. No ketchup for me though!

Miss you too! We shall eat loads of Mac and Cheese when I come see you guys in December, yes? 🙂

  10. Awesome race pics! I’ve toyed with putting some “freebie” ones on my blog, but I’m a weenie and I wimped out of it.

My shoes right now are Mizuno Wave Creation 11’s. They work ok for me, but they don’t last very long and they cost a small fortune. I’m in the market for new shoes, but too lazy to try new ones and then have to drive an hour to return them if they don’t work so I just keep buying more of the same thing. (Why on earth do I live in BFE?)

  11. Glad to hear that the remains of your red grape blister are healing up. Blister surgery is so satisfying. Those new kicks look light as clouds; you must be eager to test them out. Can’t wait to hear more of your “scheming” thoughts about what might be next…

  12. i’ve been running in a pair of asics lately but that’s just because it was cheap. my favs (and i’ll be switching into them soon as my asics have LOTS of miles on them) are new balance 769s.

but, um, if i must confess my real choice of shoe is my wedges that i’ve been wearing to work. they make me feel confident and powerful 🙂

great race pictures! i LOVE them 🙂

  13. I thought you were going to say, “this photo makes me feel better because of how UGLY everyone else is around me.” You look like you’re working, purple sports bra looks like she’s dying, and the woman behind you just looks dumb.

I like my Mizuno Wave Riders. The only drawback is their semi-short lifespan.

  14. I’m a Mizuno girl. Inspires for training and Elixirs for racing.

  15. haha, I agree with Sarah’s comment. You look strong! I like the beer photo too 🙂 Even though the race wasn’t all that you wanted, I definitely think your hard work will continue to pay off!

I’m currently in Brooks Adrenalines and I love them!
